Topseal GRP roofing, as installed by Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd, meets the following recognised standards. This gives you further reassurance that the materials and workmanship will give the long-lasting, high performance results that you expect.
Standards Compliance
- BBA (British Board of Agrément) certification
- Fire retardant to Class 1 (if required)
- Part L Building Regulations compliance (as of April 2006):
- Topseal can be specified with a calculated ‘U’ value of 0.25W/m2K or 0.20W/m2K (Calculated in accordance with BS EN ISO 6946)
What is BBA certification?
The British Board of Agrément (BBA) is an organisation partnered with the government, whose governing board includes representation on behalf of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. The BBA provides authoritative and independent information on the performance of building products.
Assessment for BBA certification involves three distinct areas:
- Laboratory testing
- Site inspections undertaken by the BBA’s own Inspection Services team
- Factory production control
Topseal’s British Board of Agrément Certificate (viewable at [www.bbacerts.co.uk no.93/2932]) guarantees that each Topseal installation can only be completed by trained and approved contractors and that every Topseal branded material must undergo constant quality control checks and be traceable right back to manufacture.
Why is BBA certification important?
Many Local Authorities or larger contracts will require the security of BBA certification in the roofing system used by their contractors. This is an established standard of quality throughout the whole of the building industry.
Because of this, it is important that all approved Topseal contractors maintain a high standard of service and always operate according to the guidance of the Topseal Installation Manual as this forms part of the basis for BBA certification. Deviating from this guidance not only jeopardises the BBA certification of the Topseal system, but also the individual contractor’s approval as a Topseal contractor.
Any questions about specific technical aspects of the Topseal GRP roofing system can usually be answered by referring to the BBA certificate.

The answer is most definitely ‘yes’. From the materials and processes used by Topseal Systems Ltd, through to the environmentally friendly ways that Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing can install your GRP roofing, there are many environmental benefits.
Topseal roofing materials
For a start, GRP has a good environmental profile, with much less energy being used in its manufacture compared to many other roofing materials. Furthermore, the processes used by Topseal to produce trims and resins have been reviewed and adapted to reduce the amount of waste produced.
Topseal is only installed with OSB3 18mm decking. Many OSB3 manufacturers have full certification from the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), a major, highly credible certifier of wood producers with the support of many environmental groups.
Environmentally friendly installation
Topseal roofs are completely cold-applied and don’t need gas-powered burners or torches. The cured polyester resins used in the Topseal laminate do not give off environmentally harmful substances, nor do they create any other toxic by-products. Because the long lifespan of GRP (a minimum of 30 years, as verified by the Building Research Establishment) outperforms the 15–20 year maxima likely from other flat roofing systems, GRP roofing also eliminates the environmental cost of producing and installing replacement roofing at shorter intervals.
Energy efficiency
Topseal GRP roofs can be installed to comply with the latest ‘Part L’ Building Regulations for improving the thermal efficiency of buildings.
Green roofs
The high durability and long life of GRP makes it ideal for intrinsically environmentally friendly green roofs.
An ideal roof for the environmentally conscious
The unique flexibility of the Topseal GRP roofing system makes it easy to affix installations such as wind turbines, solar panels or skylights at any stage of the roof’s life.
It all adds up to a durable, good looking roofing system that satisfies your environmental concerns as well as enhancing your property and saving you money. Contact us for more information.

The answer to this is a qualified ‘yes’.
The Topseal GRP roofing system, as installed by Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd, is designed to protect flat roofs from the ingress of water over many decades. Because of this, it is essential that the components of the new roof are kept dry and that the GRP laminate is not laid in wet weather or when wet weather is forecast. Equally, it is important for certain temperatures to be present for the satisfactory curing of the GRP resins used on your new roof.
If the weather is suitable (our installation team has been trained to check and accurately interpret weather forecasts for this purpose), a Topseal roof can be installed at any time of year. In practice, spring, summer and autumn are likely to have better weather, more suited to a successful installation.
Our contracting team will always liaise with you to ensure that the installation date is convenient for you, and that the weather is suitable for the Topseal process.

Replacing a flat roof with a Topseal GRP roof can be divided into four main stages. For a straightforward job such as a domestic garage roof (area c. 20m2), Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd, your local Topseal Approved Installer, would expect a team of two people to complete the flat roof installation ( re-decking, lamination and topcoating) within one day.
Preparing and decking the roof
This stage of installing a flat roof involves removing the old roof (often a perished felt roof covering) down to the supporting timbers. The joists are then checked for condition and, if required, repaired. The roof is then redecked with high quality 18mm-thick tongue-and-groove OSB3 (oriented strand board).
Fixing the edge trims
The next stage in a GRP flat roof installation consists of fixing GRP edge trims to the edge of the roof. The positioning and configuration of these edge trims enables the Topseal GRP laminate to be formed to virtually any specification.
Laminating the roof
To install a new flat roof successfully requires attention to detail and expert craftsmanship at all stages. During the vital laminating stage, joints between decking, gutters, GRP trims and protrusions (such as rooflights) are carefully ‘bandaged’ before the entire roof is laminated with a layer of GRP.
Topcoating and finishing
To replace a flat roof properly involves ensuring a suitable aesthetic and performance finish. At this stage, the roof is topcoated with high performance pigmented polyester roofing resin and your choice of colour and finish.
The site is then cleared and, with the new flat roof installation complete, you can start enjoying your new Topseal GRP roof.
It really is that straightforward and the results are long lasting and durable. Contact us for more information and your FREE no-obligation quotation.

Each Topseal GRP roof installed by Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd is designed to be maintenance free and does not require regular cleaning. However, because of the versatility of the system, its suitability for applications such as roof terraces or walkways may mean that you will want to clean the surface from time to time.
Flat roof maintenance and cleaning made easy
Your Topseal GRP roof makes flat roof cleaning easy. The smooth surface, free of welds and seams, makes it easy to clean so routine flat roof maintenance can be carried out quickly and easily and without the risk of causing damage by water penetration into the fabric of the building.
A Topseal roof can be pressure washed
Normal dirt and debris can be removed with a hose and stiff brush. If a more powerful solution is required, your GRP roof can be pressure washed without any concern of causing damage to the surface or generating leaks (the manufacturer does, however, advise against the use of steam cleaning). Cleaning complex shapes such as skylights or around other detailing is also simple.

Though Topseal is most commonly used on flat roofs, it can be applied to a wide range of domestic structures including the following:
- Pitched roofs
- Gutters
- Balconies
- Terraces
- Roof furniture (casements and skylights)
Topseal can also be used for traditional pitched roofs
Topseal can also be incorporated into traditional pitched domestic roofs and can even be used to imitate lead or copper rolls. And if you are creating a pond or pool, Topseal can also be used to create a tough, attractive lining.

We believe that when you invest in a flat roof as special as Topseal, you should have plenty of choice of colours and finishes. That’s why Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd and Topseal give you the choice of many colours, two different surface finishes and two laminate weights.
Colours
As standard, Topseal is available in two shades of grey: Cool Grey and Dark Admiralty Grey. Your Topseal roof can also be specified in any colour from a wide selection of available colours (as well as being ordered in any BS4800 colour).
Surface finishes
Topseal can be specified with a smooth finish or an optional non-slip finish for areas that people will walk on. If required, tiles can also be laid on top of the Topseal roof.
Weight of laminate
For most applications (including where the roof will be walked on occasionally), Topseal 450g/m2 laminate is suitable. This is the standard weight for most applications.
If the roof will be subject to heavy pedestrian traffic (a walkway, balcony or roof terrace), a heavier 600g/m2 laminate will be specified. This is normally specified with an aggregate non-slip finish.
What colour and finish would you like? Contact us for your FREE no-obligation quotation.

Because a Topseal roof can be walked on, it’s ideal for the creation of roof gardens, terraces or even green roofs. The high durability and longevity of GRP, combined with the thoroughness and skill of our installation team, makes it ideal for green roofs, ‘grass roofs’ or ‘sedum roofs’ with their intrinsic environmental qualities:
- Controlled storm water run off
- Increased heat and noise insulation
- An attractive natural habitat for insects and plants
- Reduced heat-island amelioration (the raised air temperature above built-up areas)
- Green roofs (including a garage green roof) act as heat shields
- Better aesthetics than an unplanted flat roof
Because your Topseal roof can be painted and textured, it’s easy to create a low-slip surface that’s ideal for a rooftop garden, a roof garden or if safe access to the roof will be required to maintain other parts of the property.
Even if you only create a small garage roof garden, it’s amazing how versatile, environmentally friendly and usable such a practical flat roof system can be. Not only does your Topseal roof save you money through durability and longevity, but you also have scope to make more use of it, and even help the environment.

The long-term durability of your new Topseal roof depends on attention to detail, quality workmanship and Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd’s thorough, methodical approach to the work.
Taking great care at all times
That’s why we’ll strip the old roof back to the original joists, check the condition of timbers, and then renew the roof decking with high quality (OSB3) tongue-and-groove oriented strand board. And of course, you can be sure we’ll take great care to keep the new decking dry before installing your new Topseal GRP roof.
If the existing roof suffers from poor drainage, we’ll also install timber fitting-pieces to the existing joists to give a suitable fall to the new deck.
Many installations are completed in one day
For many jobs, such as a standard garage, we’d expect to complete all the work in one day, thereby minimising on-site disruption to your life and enabling you to use your newly refurbished garage as soon as possible. We’ll take all the old roofing materials away and dispose of them for you, leaving your property as tidy as we found it.

Like many things in life, you get what you pay for with GRP flat roofs. Your new Topseal roof may not be the cheapest roofing (and it won’t start to deteriorate in a few years like cheap felt flat roofing either), but it’s certainly amongst the best performing.
GRP flat roofing is a great investment in your property
With installation by Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing’s manufacturer-trained GRP flat roofing contractors and a 25-year manufacturer’s guarantee (backed by British Board of Agrément approval), an attractive, maintenance-free Topseal GRP flat roof makes a great investment and an attractive addition to any property with a flat roof.

- No seams or joints means no ways for water to get in and do damage
- Bubble-free for long-lasting performance
- Choice of colours to match your property
- Maintenance free – spend your hard-earned cash on something more exciting
Cheap isn’t always best

When you’re planning to renew your garage or porch roof with our GRP flat roofing technology, it’s good to know that the strength and performance of GRP proves itself in other demanding environments whatever the weather, not least in the form of the GRP lifeboats operated by the RNLI. What’s good enough in Force 9 off the Welsh coast should be good enough for the flat roof of a domestic garage in Gloucestershire. That’s the secret of Topseal roofing installed by Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd.
50 years of proven flat roofing technology
In the UK, GRP has been used as a roofing technology for the best part of 50 years. In particular, developments in technology over the last 30 years have seen the evolution of specialist high-performance resins specifically designed for flat roofing.
GRP flat roofing technology started to gain popularity in the 1980s and has continued to win the hearts of roofers, architects and customers (some 80 per cent of GRP flat roofing is for domestic properties) due to its durability and advantages over traditional flat roofing technologies.
The smart choice if you want to ‘fit and forget’ your flat roofing
Proven performance, excellent value for money, long-life and versatility (textured, coloured and ‘green’ environmental finishes are all possible) make GRP flat roof technology the smart choice for anyone who wants to ‘fit and forget’ their roofing or add to the kerb appeal of a property before selling it.

Topseal glass reinforced plastic roofing (GRP roofing) is a durable, attractive and proven roofing made from a high performance composite resin (the ‘plastic’) reinforced by chopped strand mat glass fibres ( the ‘glass’). Together, these form a tough, durable GRP laminate that forms a key part of the GRP flat roof.
A durable system without the problems of felt or other flat roofs
Our GRP roofs, which use the proven Topseal system, consist of a single-ply GRP laminate applied in situ over an 18mm OSB3 (oriented strand board) deck; the roof is finished with pre-formed GRP edge trims and a coat of pigmented topcoat. Textured and variously coloured roofs are easily achieved, as well as ‘green’ or ‘moss’ roofs. When laid by our trained, experienced roofing specialists, GRP flat roofing provides a weatherproof, durable system without any of the problems traditionally associated with felt or other flat roofs.
Our quality workmanship is ideally suited to GRP roofing
GRP fibreglass roofing has been used in the UK for nearly 50 years, with millions of square metres of roofing still doing sterling service. As well as quality materials from a reputable supplier, a key factor for long-term durability of GRP flat roof systems is the quality of workmanship. GRP roofing can fail if it is laid incorrectly, that’s why the performance of each roof is so dependent on the installer’s training and workmanship – and why Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing Ltd, with its strong background in quality workmanship, is perfectly suited to the installation of GRP flat roofing.
