Is GRP roofing environmentally friendly and energy efficient?
The answer is most definitely ‘yes’. From the materials and processes used by Topseal Systems Ltd, through to the environmentally friendly ways that Cotswold Fibreglass Roofing can install your GRP roofing, there are many environmental benefits.
Topseal roofing materials
For a start, GRP has a good environmental profile, with much less energy being used in its manufacture compared to many other roofing materials. Furthermore, the processes used by Topseal to produce trims and resins have been reviewed and adapted to reduce the amount of waste produced.
Topseal is only installed with OSB3 18mm decking. Many OSB3 manufacturers have full certification from the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), a major, highly credible certifier of wood producers with the support of many environmental groups.
Environmentally friendly installation
Topseal roofs are completely cold-applied and don’t need gas-powered burners or torches. The cured polyester resins used in the Topseal laminate do not give off environmentally harmful substances, nor do they create any other toxic by-products. Because the long lifespan of GRP (a minimum of 30 years, as verified by the Building Research Establishment) outperforms the 15–20 year maxima likely from other flat roofing systems, GRP roofing also eliminates the environmental cost of producing and installing replacement roofing at shorter intervals.
Energy efficiency
Topseal GRP roofs can be installed to comply with the latest ‘Part L’ Building Regulations for improving the thermal efficiency of buildings.
Green roofs
The high durability and long life of GRP makes it ideal for intrinsically environmentally friendly green roofs.
An ideal roof for the environmentally conscious
The unique flexibility of the Topseal GRP roofing system makes it easy to affix installations such as wind turbines, solar panels or skylights at any stage of the roof’s life.
It all adds up to a durable, good looking roofing system that satisfies your environmental concerns as well as enhancing your property and saving you money. Contact us for more information.
